IEC 63110-1:2022 covers basic definitions, use cases and architecture for managing charging and discharging infrastructure, from energy transfer to asset management and cybersecurity.
Infrastructure management is more than status monitoring
IEC 63110-1 places charging sessions, reporting, energy need or use, grid use, contractual data and metering in an e-mobility ecosystem architecture. It also covers EVSE asset management such as monitoring, maintenance, provisioning, firmware updates and configuration.
This perspective clarifies roles and data before selecting software or APIs, especially where the operator, site owner, utility and service provider have different responsibilities.
Do not treat security as a final feature
IEC 63110-1 explicitly includes cybersecurity in scope. In practice, asset inventory, access control, certificate management, event logging, rollback-capable updates and incident response should be designed together with site operations from the outset.
- Assign an owner for every asset, certificate and update.
- Define safe local behaviour for connectivity loss, CSMS failure and unsuccessful updates.
- Manage operational and personal data with minimization and access control.
