IEC 60364-7-722:2018 addresses circuits supplying EVs or feeding power back from EVs; this is distinct from the product standard for the charger itself.

Product and installation are not the same problem

IEC 60364-7-722 addresses low-voltage installations and circuits that supply EVs, including circuits feeding electricity back from EVs. IEC 61851 covers conductive EVSE and charging modes, but site design must also resolve protection, cabling, earthing, connection capacity and operating conditions.

No article replaces national-regulation checks, utility requirements, short-circuit analysis and protection coordination at the actual project site.

Expected outputs from a site study

An actionable site study starts with load behaviour rather than simply adding charger nameplates. Dwell time, charging concurrency, expansion, transformer capacity and feeder limits all affect equipment sizing and control strategy.

  • Finalize the single-line diagram, protection plan and metering plan before equipment ordering.
  • Model load-growth scenarios and load-management behaviour.
  • Capture utility interconnection and permitting requirements as design inputs.
